The truth is, there is no perfect CAD software out there but they all have their strengths and weaknesses so it comes down to your project needs and workflow. AutoCAD:

It is also used in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, and industrial design. AutoCAD can be found almost everywhere but what makes it different from its other competitors is that it can be customized to any specific industry.

AutoCAD has most of the features that a general CAD program should have. The interface is easy to understand and navigate which makes it approachable by non-technical users. AutoCAD also has a lot of other useful applications aside from designing, like 3D modeling, 2D drafting, and datum-based modeling. It is also one of the most affordable CAD applications out there and it has a wide range of powerful features that can help you save time with your designs.

However, AutoCAD does have some disadvantages, like its commands and functions are not so intuitive to use. You will need to spend a lot of time learning the different commands. If you want to go beyond the basics, then it is challenging because most of its tutorials are text-based and do not provide a step-by-step guide on how to use the software.

Solidworks:

Solidworks has been around for more than 20 years already. It is powerful CAD software that is used in the design, simulation, and manufacturing industry. Solidworks is best used for mechanical designs because it provides a user interface that makes it possible to create 3D models using pre-defined components such as nuts, bolts, screws, springs, and even electrical circuits.

The way Solidworks was designed is very intuitive so you can use it to model a lot of things, from small-scale models to large ones. It supports a wide range of file formats and has an extensive library that can help you customize your projects.

However, Solidworks is only good for mechanical designs so if you need software for other projects then you may have to find another alternative. Another disadvantage with Solidworks is that it does not have a lot of tutorials available and even the ones available tend to be complex so looking for help can be challenging.

Which one is better?

So which one do you choose? I personally use AutoCAD to create my projects because it provides all the features I need and it’s affordable. Although it will take a lot of time in learning how to use it, I think it’s just right for me since I only use AutoCAD and other CAD software when it comes to creating 2D/3D models. If you are also in the same boat as me then choosing AutoCAD is not a bad idea at all.
